The risk of heat stress in grazing cows very much varied across the country. Wales and North EnglandĀ were low risk but the SW was quite a bit hotter. Night time temperatures outside dropped away more than in the sheds and this kept the daily average DHLI. However looking at the individual farm data the days were hot and a black cow stood in full sun will have felt uncomfortably warm in the afternoon. Again as night time temperatures rise the daily average DHLI will rise and we may see more problems in the coming weeks.
