The weather in the past week has been much cooler with more cloud cover. Farms showed low levels of heat stress with small milk yield losses. However there was still mild heat stress conditions through out the week on most farms and this will be affecting fertility, behaviour (and hence subsequent lameness risks) – any control and mitigation strategies should be kept in place.
The situation in Southern Europe appears to be much worse. People in Italy are being advised to stay indoors (and presumably do very little). Cows striving to produce and with high metabolic heat outputs could be severely affected.
